How to play
How to Play Would You Rather
The basic rules
- Choose a list for your group with the buttons above the wheel.
- Spin. Read the question out loud.
- Everyone picks one of the two options. “Neither” and “both” aren’t allowed.
- Each player says why in one or two sentences. That’s the fun part.
- Spin again, or let the last person to answer take the next spin.
Rules that keep it fun
- No wrong answers. Nobody gets teased for their choice.
- Follow-up questions are allowed. “What would you do first?” keeps the talk going.
- Anyone can pass on a question they don’t want to answer.
- Questions are about the choice, not people. Don’t write questions about real people in the room.
To keep the same question from coming up again, tick “remove the winner after each spin”.

6 Ways to Play Would You Rather
Classic
Spin, everyone answers, then spin again. It works with 2 people or 30 people.
This side or that side
Point to one wall for the first option and the opposite wall for the second. Players walk to their side. It’s a good brain break for a classroom or a party.
Debate
Two players are given opposite sides, whatever they really think. Each gets 30 seconds to convince the group, then everyone votes.
Guess the majority
Before the vote, the spinner guesses which side most people will pick. A right guess scores a point. Keep score with the points wheel.
Writing prompt
Spin one question and write a paragraph: “I would rather… because…”. Give one reason, one example and one downside of the other choice.
Video call or chat
Share your screen and spin, then people vote with a reaction or type 1 or 2 in the chat. The name picker chooses who explains first.

- Let a different person spin each week.
For more icebreakers, see the question wheel.
Teachers
Would You Rather in the Classroom
Morning meeting
One spin to start the day. Students answer in pairs, then two or three share with the class.
Speaking practice
Give English learners a sentence frame: “I would rather ___ because ___.” Stronger speakers add “I wouldn’t want to ___ because ___.”
Opinion writing
The two options are ready-made sides of an argument. Ask for a claim, two reasons and one counter-argument.
Brain break
Play “this side or that side” so everyone gets up and moves. The brain break wheel has more ideas.
Fair turns
Load the class list into the random name picker and remove each name after it is picked, so every student answers once.

How to Write a Good Would You Rather Question
5 tips
- Make both sides tempting, or both a bit bad. If one side is obviously better, nobody has to think.
- Keep the two options the same size. “Fly or be invisible” works. “Fly or own a pencil” doesn’t.
- Keep it short. Players should remember both options after hearing them once.
- Add a twist. “For a week” or “every time you sneeze” makes a question funnier.
- Keep it kind. No questions about real people, bodies or anything that could embarrass someone.
Put your own questions on the wheel
- Clear the box, or start from a list and edit it.
- Type one question per line.
- Press Spin, or press the space bar.
- Press Share to copy a link, so others can open the same wheel.
You can also give a question more chances with *2. See how to make a spin the wheel.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the rules of would you rather?
Someone asks a question with two options. Every player has to pick one, with no “neither” or “both”, and explain why. There are no wrong answers. You can play for fun or score points, for example by guessing which side most people will pick.
How many people can play would you rather?
Two is enough, and there’s no upper limit. With big groups, have everyone vote by hand or by moving to a side of the room, then ask a few people to explain.
How do you use a would you rather wheel?
Pick a list, press Spin and read out the question the wheel lands on. Everyone answers, then you spin again. Tick “remove the winner after each spin” so the same question doesn’t come up twice.
Are these questions OK for kids?
Yes. Every list is clean. The Funny, Food, Superpowers and Gross lists are written for ages about 6 to 12. The Make you think, Teens and Work lists suit older players but are still fine for kids.
What are some good would you rather questions?
Good ones make both options equally hard to choose. Some favourites from our lists: “Would you rather freeze time or rewind time by ten seconds?” and “Would you rather know a lot about one thing or a little about everything?”
Can I add my own questions?
Yes. Type them into the box, one per line, and spin. Press Share to send the wheel to friends or students.
Is the wheel random?
Yes. Each spin uses your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, so every question has the same chance. Our fairness page explains how it works.
