Check a Draw

Use this page to check a draw from FairWheelPick. A draw record shows the winner, the time, the chance the winner had and a fingerprint of the full entry list. Paste the entry list below to confirm it is the same list that was on the wheel.

No draw record in this link. After a spin, press “Copy draw record” in the result window to create one.

Check a list against a fingerprint

How to Make a Checkable Draw

  1. Before the draw: put your final entry list on the wheel. Open the Fairness tab and copy the list fingerprint. Post it publicly, for example in the giveaway post, before you spin.
  2. Spin. Ideally live or on a screen recording.
  3. After the draw: press Copy draw record in the result window and share the link. It opens this page with the record.
  4. Anyone can check: they paste the entry list into the checker. If the fingerprint matches, the list is exactly the one you used.

What a Draw Record Proves, and What It Doesn’t

A fingerprint is a SHA-256 hash of the entry list, made in your browser. The same list always gives the same fingerprint, and changing a single character changes it completely.

  • It proves the list someone checks is identical to the list that was on the wheel, including order and spelling.
  • It proves the list wasn’t edited after the fingerprint was published, if you posted the fingerprint before the spin.
  • It doesn’t prove the result on its own. A record link is just data, and someone could type one by hand. That’s why a live or recorded spin still matters.
  • It doesn’t prove the list was complete. Entrants should check their name is on it.

We don’t store draws or lists on our server, so we can’t look up or confirm a draw for you. Everything on this page runs in your browser.

Questions

Why doesn’t my list match?

The checker ignores blank lines and spaces at the start and end of each line, but everything else counts: spelling, capital letters, order and weights such as *2. Copy the list exactly as it was on the wheel.

Is the draw itself random?

Yes. The winner is chosen by your browser’s secure random number generator before the wheel moves. See how the draw works and run the fairness test yourself.
