How it works

How to Play Truth or Dare With a Wheel

The two-spin method

  1. Sit in a circle and agree the house rules below before anyone spins.
  2. On your turn, spin the Truth or dare? wheel. It lands on Truth or Dare, so nobody gets to dodge.
  3. Switch the wheel to the matching list for your group, for example Kids: truths, and spin again.
  4. Answer honestly or do the dare, then pass the phone or tablet to the next player.

Who goes next?

Go clockwise, or put everyone’s name into the random name picker and spin for the next player. Tick “remove the winner after each spin” so everybody gets a turn before anyone goes twice.

Want a game that ends? Give 1 point for a truth and 2 for a dare, and keep score with the points wheel.

Before you start

House Rules That Keep Truth or Dare Fun

Agree these out loud first. They stop the game turning mean and make it safe for mixed ages.

Everyone can pass

Each player gets two passes per game, no questions asked. If you pass, spin again or take a forfeit from the forfeits list. Nobody is pushed into anything.

Safe dares only

No dares that involve climbing, heat, sharp objects, food someone might be allergic to, leaving the room or the house, or touching another person without asking them first.

No phones, no posting

No photos or videos of dares and no messaging people outside the room. What happens in the game stays in the game.

Truths stay kind

You can ask about yourself or about funny moments, not about other people’s secrets. Anyone can say “that one’s too personal” and get a new spin.

An adult has the final say

With kids playing, one grown-up checks any dare that isn’t on the list and can swap a question for a new spin.

Change the odds, not the rules

If your group is shy, type Truth *2 on the first wheel to make truths twice as likely. The wheel still picks fairly; see how our spins work.

Truth or Dare Variations to Try

Team truth or dare

Split into two teams. A team that completes a dare wins 2 points and a truth wins 1. The first team to 10 wins.

Double dare

After a dare lands, the player can say “double dare”. If they do it twice as long, they score double points.

Classroom version

Use only the kids’ truths as a quick icebreaker. Teachers often swap dares for movement breaks from the brain break wheel.

Video call version

Share your screen and spin for everyone. Pick dares people can do at a desk: voices, faces, poses and tongue twisters.

Truth, dare or question

Add a third slice called “Question” and use the question wheel for get-to-know-you prompts.

Make your own list

Each player writes one truth and one dare. Paste them in, one per line, and spin. Nobody knows whose prompt they got.

Make it yours

How to Create Your Own Truth or Dare Wheel

  1. Pick a preset from the list above the wheel to start from, or clear the box.
  2. Type or paste your own prompts, one per line. Long prompts are fine; the result shows in full.
  3. Add *2 after a line to give it two chances, or *25% to set its exact share.
  4. Press Spin, or press the space bar. Use “remove the winner” so the same dare doesn’t come up twice.
  5. Press Share to copy a link to your wheel, so friends can open the same list on their own phones.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the rules of truth or dare?

Players take turns choosing, or spinning for, truth or dare. A truth means answering a question honestly, and a dare means doing a short challenge. Agree house rules first: everyone can pass, dares must be safe, and no photos or posting. You can keep score or play just for fun.

How do you play truth or dare with a spinner wheel?

Spin the Truth or dare? wheel to see which one you get, then switch to the matching list and spin again for the prompt. Using a wheel means nobody can be accused of picking easy questions for friends or hard ones for everyone else.

Is this truth or dare wheel OK for kids?

Yes. The kids’ lists are written for ages about 6 to 12, with silly questions and dares you can do indoors without equipment. We still suggest an adult stays in charge, and that every player knows they can pass.

Is there an adult version?

There is a clean party set for adults, labelled Adults (clean party). It is for work parties and family get-togethers, so it has no drinking, flirting or explicit prompts. You can always type your own list for your group.

What if someone doesn’t want to answer?

Let them pass. Give everyone two passes per game, then offer a fresh spin or a light forfeit such as a joke or 10 star jumps. Pressure spoils the game fast.

How many people do you need to play?

Three or more is best, and it works with up to about 12. With bigger groups, split into teams so turns come round quicker.

Can I make truth more likely than dare?

Yes. On the first wheel, type Truth *2 on one line and Dare on the next. Truth then has two chances in three. This is handy for shy groups.

Is the wheel random?

Each spin uses your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, so every slice has the same chance unless you change the weights. Our fairness page explains how it works.
