Quick rules

Rules for 10 Classic Party Games

If the wheel lands on a game nobody remembers, here’s how to play it.

Charades

One player acts out a word or phrase with no talking, and their team has one minute to guess. Show the number of words with your fingers first.

Pictionary

Like charades, but you draw. No letters, numbers or talking. The team that guesses within a minute scores a point.

Truth or Dare

Each player answers a truth or does a dare. Use the truth or dare wheel for clean lists and fair rules.

Two Truths and a Lie

A player says three things about themselves. Two are true and one is made up. Everyone else votes on the lie.

Twenty Questions

One player thinks of a thing. The others ask up to 20 yes-or-no questions to work out what it is.

Categories

Spin the letter wheel. Everyone writes an animal, a food, a country and a name starting with that letter in one minute. Unique answers score a point.

Hot Potato

Pass a soft ball round the circle while music plays. Whoever holds it when the music stops spins for a forfeit.

Word Association

Say a word. The next player says the first word it makes them think of, without pausing. Hesitate for three seconds and you’re out.

Would You Rather

Ask a question with two choices, such as “Would you rather fly or be invisible?” Everyone picks a side and explains why. The would you rather wheel has 107 questions.

Telephone

Whisper a sentence to the next person, who whispers what they heard to the next. The last player says it out loud.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some fun spin the wheel games?

Popular ones are truth or dare, charades and Pictionary with prompts from the wheel, Categories with a random letter, forfeits for the loser of each round, and quiz games where the wheel sets the points. Load a preset above to try any of them.

How do you play a spin the wheel game at a party?

Decide what the wheel chooses: the next game, the next player, a prompt or a forfeit. Put the options in, one per line, and let each player spin on their turn. Agree the rules before the first spin so nobody argues with the result.

What are good party games for kids?

Simon Says, Freeze Dance, Musical Chairs, Hot Potato, I Spy, Duck Duck Goose and charades all work well. They need no equipment and are easy to explain. The Kids games preset has 14 of them.

What games can adults play with a wheel?

Two Truths and a Lie, Twenty Questions, Categories, Heads Up, a trivia round and the clean adult set on the truth or dare wheel. A wheel also helps a work team pick who presents first.

Can I add my own games to the wheel?

Yes. Clear the box and type each game on its own line, or edit a preset. Press Share to copy a link to your wheel so other players see the same list.

Is the wheel fair?

Each spin uses your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, so every slice has the same chance unless you add weights such as *2. Our fairness page explains how it works.
