FairWheelPick (fairwheelpick.com) is a free spin the wheel tool run by W Thomas. We built it so that you can use it without an account and without handing your lists to us. This page explains what happens to your information when you use the site.
The short version
- Your wheel entries, settings and results stay in your own browser. We never receive them.
- We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, and there are no ads.
- We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not track individuals.
- If you email us, we use your email only to reply.
Your wheel entries stay on your device
The names and options you type, your settings and your results are saved in your browser’s local storage, so they are still there next time you visit. They are not sent to our server, and we cannot see them. Clearing your browser data, or pressing Clear and Clear results, removes them.
Share links
When you copy a share link, your list is encoded into the part of the link after the # sign. Browsers don’t send that part of a link to the website’s server, so our server doesn’t receive your list. Anyone who has the link can read the list, though, and the link may be kept in browser history or wherever you paste it. Only share it with people you are happy to show the list to.
What our providers receive when you visit
Like every website, when you load a page your browser sends standard technical information, such as your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for. This reaches our web hosting provider and Cloudflare, which we use to protect the site and make it load faster. They may keep this information in logs for security and to keep the service running.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. Cloudflare says it does not use client-side state such as cookies or local storage to track users, and does not fingerprint visitors by IP address (Cloudflare’s description).
Cookies
We don’t set advertising or tracking cookies for visitors. If Cloudflare’s security features are triggered, Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies, for example __cf_bm for bot protection, which expires after 30 minutes of inactivity, or cf_clearance after a security check is passed (Cloudflare’s cookie list).
Emails you send us
If you email [email protected], we use your address and message only to reply to you. We don’t add you to a mailing list or share your email. Ask us and we will delete our copy of the conversation.
Advertising and changes
There are no ads on FairWheelPick. If that changes, or if we add any other analytics or third-party service, we will update this page first and change the date at the top.
Children
The wheel works without anyone sharing personal information with us, which makes it suitable for classrooms. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. Teachers and parents should still avoid putting sensitive details on a wheel, especially in a share link.
Your rights
Because your wheel data never reaches us, you control it directly in your browser. For anything else, including questions about this policy or a request to see or delete information we hold about you, email [email protected].
